Description
Gabriel Royal, singer/song writer kicks the night off with some soulful, booty shakin melodies. Followed by Smash Mechanics, a band making progressive hip hop music using heavy electropop, rock and other influences to create a thumping and melodic mix. Front men Phaze Future and Delorian Tokes find a common history in battles and open mics around the city and on the indie record scene. Steeped in New York esthetics ranging from high-minded art to heavy-handed hustlers, the two vocalist/producers create tracks that are as danceable as they are thought provoking. Smash performances echo that eclectic approach, with a live band utilizing 808 drum pads, bluesy guitar riffs, dubbed-out horn delays and slick synthesizers, bringing the show to a boil and keeping it there. Backed by the Boomclique band, comprised of Cru Jonez on drums and sampler, ElcoDeck on bass, Luca on guitar, E.Beats on organ, piano and synths, Grancentral on horns, there will always be a few surprises in store.
Formed in the late 90's, Boomclique is a collective of musicians encompassing many different projects and styles. As individuals, they have toured nationally and internationally, played on national tv (late night w/ carson daly), played festivals such as bonaroo and camp bisco, and opened for bands such as The Roots, Biz Markie, Phoenix, Mute Math, & Kool Keith, just to name a few. As a whole, they find common ground in the fusion of jazz, hip hop and funk music. Honing their skills as the house band at the legendary Alphabet Lounge's thursday night jam sessions, Boomclique became a signifigant force on the downtown music and art scenes in NYC. Known for their boundless energy and creativity, these guys never fail to keep the party moving.
